OVERVIEW
The rise and post-pandemic growth of e-commerce is straining infrastructure, adversely impacting the built environment. This CPD presentation establishes the relationship between last-mile delivery, urban logistics and the carbon footprint. We then explore the dual consumer expectations of convenience and sustainability and the importance of including an e-commerce solution in every new project.
In the second half of the session, we explore local and global trends and delve into a range of practical solutions for parcels and on-demand deliveries. These include public lockers, private building solutions, parcel rooms, and "asset light" alternatives. We also take a detailed look at design considerations, including choosing the best-fit solution, spatial planning, cost implications, aesthetics, and more.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

- Understand the growing impact of e-commerce deliveries on the built environment
- Establish the link between last-mile deliveries and sustainability
- Expand knowledge of global best practices and a range of solutions for receiving parcels and other on-demand deliveries
- Build confidence in specifying and designing solutions for projects, including residential communities, apartments and commercial office precincts
- Understand and articulate the benefits that underpin the business case for incorporating last-mile solutions
